Lauren Picks: Talib Kweli, Frank Ocean, A$AP Mob

Posted on September 6th, 2012

I think most people don’t take me seriously or believe me when I say I LOVE hip-hop and rap. It’s the truth. Here are three hip-hop songs I am currently obsessed with.

Talib Kweli & Z-Trip feat. Jay Rock “The Corner”
Talib Kweli is one of the best ever and I never get sick of his flow. This one is from his new mixtape Attack The Block. The sample that sucks you in? Ya, that’s just a classic R.E.M song… no big deal.

Frank Ocean “Crack Rock”
Don’t ask me why a song about crack makes me cry, but it does. Maybe it’s actually about MORE than just crack? I mean something is getting through to my soul. Frank poetically sings about “hittin’ glass stones, in glass homes” and he really makes something so disgusting as crack use, seem very beautiful and magical. NOTE: I have never done crack.

A$AP Mob feat. Flatbush Zombies “Bath Salt”
I have been consumed by the recent events in the news involving bath salt attacks, or as I like to refer to it, the impending zombie apocalypse. So I was thrilled when I came across this song – which now has a sick video to go with it. A$AP Rocky and his mob have made the song that will accompany our horrific death by zombies tripping on bath salts.
