Mobile Ticketing Changes the Concert Game

Posted on September 14th, 2011

Hey everyone, it’s Brian from the New.Music.Live. team with some news that could potentially change the way you buy concert tickets.

ShowClix, a ticketing company based in New York, has recently launched mobile ticketing, and as an avid concert-goer, I’m very interested in how this can change the way we buy concert tickets.

Gone are the days of anxiously sitting at my computer on Ticketmaster, hoping for a good seat, then waiting for the tickets to be delivered to me, then making sure I don’t misplace those tickets before the actual show date. I’m stressed out just thinking about it.

What ShowClix has done is made the entire thing digital. Which makes sense, since everything else regarding music is pretty much done online anyway.

Basically, for shows that are ticketed through ShowClix, you buy your ticket online, you get a confirmation email, then a day or two before the show, you get an email that includes a barcode, which can be scanned directly from your phone’s screen to get you access to the venue.

I know, right? Dead simple and pretty amazing.

Personally, I think this is a great idea. Sometimes, tickets go on sale a year before the actual concert (I’m looking at you, Lady Gaga), and I’ve been so paranoid keeping them hidden in my underwear drawer where I wouldn’t lose them.

But, one thing I always have on me is my phone. And I’m pretty sure the rest of the concert going public has there phones on them too. I mean, how else are you going to tweet those concert pics as the concert is happening?!!!!?! So, using the mobile ticketing service would make the most sense.

The only thing I would miss is keeping the ticket stubs as little mementos. But, I think that’s a small price to pay for some piece of mind.

Check out their site here and let me know – is mobile ticketing something that you would consider using? Do you prefer physical tickets? Or do you just find it weird that I keep important things in my underwear drawer?
