Phoebe’s top 5 albums of 2012 (in no particular order):
Taylor Swift – Red
My favorite thing about Taylor Swift is that her songs are so relatable, so of course I’m totally obsessed with her fourth album, Red. It’s an album that you can listen to no matter what mood you’re in! There are the slow ballads that have you crying over your ex and the upbeat, happy, pop songs that have you realizing that your ex was actually a jerk. “The Last Time” featuring Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody reminds me that if you’re going to be in a relationship, you should be with someone who sees your worth and is willing to put you at the top of their list of priorities. The piano, along with Taylor and Gary’s call and response style of singing, tears my soul out of my body, but in the best way possible! I’m not going to say I don’t play this song just to sit and cry on my bed with my cat…

One Direction – Take Me Home
One Direction’s new album Take Me Home is the bomb diggity! It’s one of those happy, pop albums you throw on when you’re getting ready in the morning to guarantee a great day! “Little Things” is probably my favorite song on the album. I’m such a sucker for those cute songs aimed towards girls and written to show a girl they don’t need to be anything but themselves. You can totally tell this song was written by Ed Sheeran and I love how Ed sings it. But, I think it’s totally rad to have the five different voices on the song to make things even more interesting. My favorite lyric in the song is sung by Harry Styles: “I know you never loved the sound of your voice on tape, you never want to know how much you weigh. You still have to squeeze into your jeans but you’re perfect to me.” Awesome album!

Ed Sheeran – +
Oh jeez, this album! Ed Sheeran in my mind is one of the most talented human beings. Ed writes his music with his soul and he does it because he has to. He doesn’t write music to become cool or famous, he does it because he loves music so much and it’s his way of letting his feelings out and you can really feel that when you listen to his debut album +. This album is very powerful; it’s taken me a long time to be able to hold it together while listening to it. “Give Me Love” is my favorite track off of the album and ironically enough it’s his latest single. When he performs it live he extends the track and gets the audience involved. Seeing Ed perform this album live was one of the most phenomenal performances I’ve seen to date. This album is def a “+” in my books!

Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss
Carly Rae Jepsen’s second studio album is so much fun! It’s an album that has me dancing around my house using a hairbrush as a microphone! The album has a way too cute song called “Beautiful” that is written with and sung with Justin Bieber. I love this song so much that I actually got “Beautiful” tattooed on me to remind me of it. But my favorite song is probably “Tonight I’m Getting Over You.” It’s one of those “Let’s have a girls night and forget about that stupid boy that broke your heart” songs! A song every one of us ladies needs to have in our lives! This album makes me want to find Carly and give her a big hug, thank her, and seal it with a kiss!

Justin Bieber – Believe
Justin Bieber’s latest album Believe has a bit of everything for everyone! This album isn’t just for 14 year old Beliebers but for adult haters too! I think Justin and his team have done such an awesome job at helping him transition from a boy to a man and this album definitely shows that! The album is loaded with collaborations too: you’ve got Big Sean, Ludacris, JB’s best friend, Drake, and the coolest collab in my mind, Nicki Minaj! My favorite songs on this album change everyday, but I really love “Maria” as it’s controversial and sounds a lot like Michael Jackson. This album has got me “Beliebing” for sure!
